In this episode of Once Upon a Storytime Podcast, we continue Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll with Chapter 8, “The Queen’s Croquet-Ground,” where Alice finally meets the formidable Queen of Hearts and discovers that games in Wonderland have some very unusual rules.
Join Alice as she finds three frightened gardeners hurriedly painting white roses red before the royal procession arrives. Soon, Alice is invited to join the Queen for an extraordinary game of croquet, where flamingos become mallets, hedgehogs become balls, and the players wander wherever they please. Along the way, the grinning head of the Cheshire Cat appears above the croquet ground and causes even more confusion among the King, Queen, and executioner.
Filled with royal tempers, impossible games, curious creatures, and plenty of Wonderland nonsense, this chapter brings Alice face-to-face with the Queen of Hearts—and proves that keeping your head in Wonderland can be quite an accomplishment.
