In this episode of Once Upon a Storytime Podcast, we continue Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll with Chapter 5, “Advice from a Caterpillar,” where Alice meets one of Wonderland’s most curious characters and struggles to answer a surprisingly difficult question: “Who are YOU?”
Join Alice as she encounters a blue Caterpillar perched upon a mushroom, quietly smoking his hookah and offering advice that is every bit as puzzling as Wonderland itself. After attempting to recite a familiar poem—with very unfamiliar results—Alice discovers that different sides of the Caterpillar’s mushroom can make her grow taller or shorter, leading to another round of extraordinary transformations and a rather unpleasant encounter with a suspicious Pigeon.
Filled with curious conversations, playful poetry, magical mushrooms, and questions about change and identity, this chapter carries Alice deeper into Wonderland as she learns a little more about navigating a world where nothing—including Alice herself—seems to remain the same for very long.
